After much debate on whether Avengers: Endgame would – or should – top 2009’s Avatar’s worldwide box office sales, and a re-run in theaters with new content, Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced during Comic Con’s blowout Marvel panel what many believed was inevitable: Avengers: Endgame is the top-grossing film of all time.
Currently sitting at a comfortable $2,790,216,193, Endgame has finally trumped Avatar’s $2,789,700,000 by less than a million dollars. Both properties are owned by Disney.
Avengers: Endgame will be available digitally on July 30, while the physical edition hits on August 13. The next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow, launches in theaters on May 1, 2020. The sequel to Avatar is now expected to release in 2021, 12 years after the original.
