Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie continues to soar, and it’s expected to pass $1 billion this weekend at the box office. It’ll be a nice birthday weekend celebration for Gerwig, who celebrates her 40th birthday today, August 4. The film currently stands at around $900 million worldwide.
According to Deadline’s sources, Barbie could hit $1 billion in global office receipts on Sunday, or potentially Monday. Barbie is projected to earn about $55 million in the US this weekend, which would represent a solid third weekend for the film.
International box office figures this weekend should push Barbie beyond $1 billion, becoming just the second film this year to earn $1 billion. The first was The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which made $1.35 billion at the global box office and remains 2023’s No. 1 movie.
