At an event in Tokyo, Square Enix announced Dragon Quest Walk – a Pokémon Go-style AR mobile title (developed by Colopl) bringing the RPG franchise into user’s real-life surroundings. Going to real-world landmarks unlocks quests, and items you earn in the game can be arranged in a special room within the title.
Dragon Quest Walk (iOS/Android) has only been announced for Japan, and its closed beta test begins on June 11.
During the presentation (translated by Gematsu), Dragon Quest series executive producer Yuu Miyake also brought up Dragon Quest XII. “By the way, about Dragon Quest XII, which I’m sure is on everyone’s mind – [Dragon Quest creator Yuji] Horii and I are currently making preparations on series developments that will connect to XII. I think it’s still too early, but we would like announce it in some form, so please wait a little while longer.”
