Reader Discussion – What Game Series' Lore Are You Most Versed In?

Kingdom Hearts III is out next week, and it looks like it’s pretty good. The series gets a bad rap for having an overly-complicated storyline, but it has its fans, people who dig into every aspect of its lore, characters, and plot. That can be fun to do; knowing how various events come together, timelines split apart, and more feels good, and showing off the knowledge is a pleasure in its own.

So we want to know: What games series’ lore are you most knowledgeable in? I don’t know that there’s any major franchise I could explain completely, but there are a few that I’m pretty confident: Metal Gear (another series known for its silly convoluted plotline), Advance Wars, the Kill the Past trilogy (some of Grasshopper Manufacture’s earlier games) I think I could talk about in-depth. Maybe Mortal Kombat. I could talk for a while about The Witcher, too, but I’m sure there are people far more versed in it than I am.

What about you? Are you a Kingdom Hearts nut? Have a theory about Zelda’s timelines you think better fits them all together than Nintendo’s official one? Could you please tell me what happens between Resident Evil 2 and 4 so I don’t have to play the games in between? Let us know in the comments.

Resident Evil 2's 4th Survivor Mode Trailer Shows Off A Hunky Mode

When players managed to finish Capcom’s recent “one-shot” demo for their newly-released Resident Evil 2 remake, they were treated to a brief trailer showing of Hunk and Tofu, two classic RE2 characters who’ve made it back into the remake. Capcom has now also shown off a trailer showing how Hunk factors into the game.

Hunk is the main character of 4th Survivor, a throwback unlockable mode available after players beat the game’s 2nd Run mode. 4th Survivor offers a campaign that’s much shorter than the main ones, but is much tougher. Although Hunk starts out with way more items than either Claire or Leon, it’s all he gets for the run, and you have to beat the mode on a timer. After that, you unlock Tofu mode, which has you playing as the titular large block of foodlike substance armed only with a knife and a few herbs. You can find a gameplay trailer of the mode below.

Call Of Duty Has Been The Highest-Selling Console Franchise For The Last 10 Years

Activision is celebrating a major milestone for the franchise, one that no other series can really claim: Being the best-selling franchise for 10 consecutive years.

NPD announced the news earlier this week. The streak began with 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and concluded with 2018’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Within that timespan, every entry in the series has sold immensely well, and helped make the franchise the highest-selling series of that year. The distinction of “franchise” is key to the streak here, however, as Grand Theft Auto V beat out Call of Duty: Ghosts as the single best-selling game of 2013,  making it the only year that a Call of Duty title didn’t top the sales chart. Still, that’s a lot of Call of Duty to sell, which very likely means there’ll be another one. Who knows!

If you want to see us pull off some sick stunts in the best-selling console game of 2018, here you go.
