Taika Waititi is known for making a stamp on Marvel’s Thor film series with Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, but he wasn’t always interested in making a superhero movie. He said on the Smartless podcast (via IndieWire) that, at first, he had “no interest” in making a Thor movie.
Waititi, who was known for smaller-budget films like Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows before Thor, said he originally mapped out a career “as an auteur.” However, Waititi said he needed to make some money to help his growing family, so he took the job.
“I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children,'” Waititi said.
